Frequently Asked Questions

Most FAQ

The minimum age to throw with us is 13. Ages 13-17 must have an adult present to supervise, but the adult does not need to throw, just watch. There is also a different waiver for minors, which requires the signature of the adult supervisor – this can be filled out at the front desk upon arrival.

You may not bring your own alcohol. Timberwood is proud to offer you beer, cider, wine and cocktails available for purchase. Outside water/coffee is fine!

Yes! Our ‘little bites’ menu provides tasty hot appetizers to keep the hunger at bay while you throw axes, but if you’re looking for a full meal, we recommend bringing in your own catering. We don’t charge any plating fee, but you’ll have to do your own legwork in finding food for your crew. Need some extra help deciding on what to eat? Reach out and we can recommend some local places that we love!

Timberwood Questions

At Timberwood, we don’t just hand you an axe and say “good luck”. You’ll be provided with an expert Coach to help you learn how to throw safely and successfully. Then we get into games! We’ve got a whole games book from games perfect for pairs (Around the World), to a tournament set up and run by your Coach. Mastered your competitive throw? We’ve got tons of trick shots to try also. We do our best to tailor the experience to each group.

We recommend booking at least one week in advance. For larger groups, booking 2-4 weeks ahead of time is highly recommended. Our venue is small, and fills up quickly! For same day reservations, please call 905-707-9643.

Although the minimum age to throw with us is 13, children under 13 may enter the facility so long as they’re supervised by the adults in their group.

Absolutely – we all need cheerleaders! There’s no charge to spectate, but you’ll still need to fill out a waiver like all other patrons.

Depends on the number of people! For groups of 2-5, 1 hour is often enough. For groups larger than 5 we require 90 minutes or two hours, which allows time for safety, training, coaching, games, tournaments, trick shots, and more! We take pride in tailoring the experience to what you’re most interested in. If you’d like to stay longer, we’re happy to extend your stay if our availability allows.

No, but we’re a small place that fills up quickly! We don’t mix different groups on the lanes. You’re welcome to try to walk-in, but we can’t guarantee any availability without advance booking. Give us a call at 905-707-9643 to check availability with the front desk.

Timberwood shares the parking lot with Fairweather Brewing Company. There’s plenty of spaces, and additional street parking.

Axe Throwing Questions

Coaching is what we do! We’ll work through various types of throws and axe weights to find one that works for you.

Typically we start with a basic throw and game to get everyone comfortable with our equipment and safety rules. Once you show mastery of that, we’re happy to move to more advanced techniques, games, or you can just be left to throw on your own if you prefer!

No, each axe weighs between 2-3lbs. We do have a variety of styles, and we’ll find the one that best suits you!

Closed toe shoes are a must. Wear comfortable, non-restricting clothes.

Axe throwing is a great sport for anyone and does not rely on the strength or speed of a person. Our Coaches can work with you to find a throw that works; and we’re very good at what we do!

Sure! The axe must be inspected and approved by the Manager on Duty. Timberwood reserves the right to refuse the use of any axe that does not meet the safety requirements.

FAQ Corporate/Large Booking

Absolutely! We’ve got plenty of seating available in our lounge. If your group is over 15 players and you’d like to stay later after your throwing is finished, just email us to let us know your plans!

If you’re looking for a full meal, we recommend bringing in your own catering. We don’t charge any plating fee, but you’ll have to do your own legwork in finding food for your crew. Need some extra help deciding on what to eat? Reach out and we can recommend some of our favourite local spots!

Yes! We’re all on one level, no stairs required. We’ve recently installed a barrier-free washroom, so we’re ready to accommodate everyone. We’re very good at coaching according to the abilities of our guests, so we’ll work with you to make sure you can stick that axe!
